forklift jib

After making significant business advancements, a Cornwall-based spring manufacturer realised their existing machinery was no longer fit-for-purpose and that specialist equipment was needed to keep them ahead of the game.

Lesjöfors Heavy Springs UK recently increased the efficiency of their production process, investing in larger machines to help keep up with their growing demand. Due to this, the Safe Working Load (SWL) of their existing forklift jib was no longer sufficient for their evolving needs.

Laura Townsend, Procurement Officer at Lesjöfors Heavy Springs UK, said: “After our recent investment at our Cornwall site, we required a heavy-duty forklift jib, one which could endure the greater volume of steel that we were now able to receive into our factory and manufacture into our specialist springs.

“We were searching for the perfect solution when we came across Contact Attachments, and found exactly what we were looking for – the Low Liner Jib. We purchased the LLJ-500-4.4 model, which is designed to be perfectly compatible with our five-tonne capacity forklift.”

The Low Liner Jib provides long reach capabilities for picking up products that are either difficult to palletise, or are in positions that make gaining access more challenging. At 1800mm long, the jib allows loads to be picked up at different lengths and its heel pin retention secures it to forklift forks to eliminate any risk of slipping or involuntary movement.

“Currently, this attachment is responsible for lifting two-tonne coils of steel wire into machines, which are then manufactured into springs for various industries across the globe,” Laura added. “But we know that it has scope to support us should our processes change again – giving us peace of mind that our investment is future-proof.

“Not only has it provided us with an enhanced SWL to better suit our evolving production process, but it’s allowed us to increase the weight of the raw material coming into the business. In turn this enables us to run the machines for longer with less changeovers and downtime, ultimately improving the efficiency of the site and reducing costs. A win:win all round!”

Jason Cadman, Marketing Manager at Contact Attachments, concluded: “The Low Liner Jib is one of our most popular attachments, and has proven yet again to be an invaluable addition to the workforce. It’s an incredible privilege to learn of the very real, and very positive impacts our products are having on companies like Lesjöfors Heavy Springs UK.”
